Repair works have been carried out at SLKB Shipyard for more than 110 years, from the time of its establishment in 1898. There were times when there was a downturn in shipbuilding; consequently, ship repair became the primary activity of the shipyard during those times.
Basically, it was a long tradition in ship repairs on the Danube and a demand for the repair of ships owned by modern shipping companies at the turn of the 20th century that called for the establishment of our shipyard in the heart of Europe.
After the wars the shipyard’s production profile changed and it produced mainly equipment for power plants and industrial plants. Construction works for the power plant in Nováky and for the ironworks in Košice could be mentioned as examples.
After the change of regime in 1989 further services were included in our production activities, such as the restoration of old vessels for collectors and other businesses, or the construction of floating hotels.
Today SLKB, a truly European shipyard, still offers a wide range of shipbuilding and other non-shipbuilding services. High quality of the above described repair and restoration services is guaranteed by the fact that our staff have several decades of experience in the field and we also have our own trade school. Furthermore, our shipyard always adopts the latest shipbuilding technologies.
